Is a hands free retractable leash safe?

It can be, with the right dog. It's a good fit for a calm dog that walks well on leash. It's not a good fit for a strong puller, because you can't let go of a leash strapped to your body. Lock the leash short anywhere busy, and use a harness.

Will it work for my dog's size?

It's rated for dogs up to 55 lb, and the handle isn't bulky, so it works well for small dogs too. If your dog is near 55 lb or pulls hard, use a fixed leash instead.

Can I use it as a regular retractable leash?

Yes. Unclip the shoulder strap and hold the handle like any other retractable leash.

Can I run with it?

We don't recommend it. For running, a fixed-length waist leash with a bungee section gives you more control.
